Although not a hardwood, Eastern Hemlock is a slow-growing, tight-ring wood. We are at the southern range of it here in West Virginia. It has unique properties over pine, such as increased bug resistance, decay resistance, and the lack of sap. This makes it one of the most friendly species to use air-dried. You can expect a generally knotty, rustic appearance.
