Maple (Acer saccharum, Acer rubrum, Acer saccharinum)
Maple is usually characterized as Hard Maple or Soft Maple. They share many similar attributes, although Hard Maple is approximately 30-50% harder than Soft Maple. Hard Maple excels in areas where durability and bright color are prized, such as cutting boards, furniture, and flooring. Soft Maple is a great option when you need a light-colored wood that is fairly durable, but do not need the weight and hardness of Hard Maple. We find that it makes exceptional Tongue and Groove paneling, but is also a great option for furniture and other uses.
